Tennis at Duffield

Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world and is suitable for all ages and abilities. It has a long tradition of helping people to get fit, stay healthy and have fun.

It is a very sociable sport, whether playing doubles with friends or playing in a team or league. It is a great way for families and friends to come together – not only on court but afterwards in the bar as well.

Why play tennis at Duffield?

People have been enjoying tennis at Duffield since 1882 and there are still plenty of opportunities for joining in the fun.

Top-class courts - We have seven outdoor courts, six on synthetic grass and one hard court. Court fees are included in the membership price: the only extra charges are for coaching and floodlights (new LED). It is easy to book your court online in advance.

Starting to play is easy – you can come to one of our social drop-in sessions or, if you are a beginner, or want to improve your game, we have individual and group coaching to suit your needs. Call our Head Coach, James Grindell, on 07968058383 for more information.

All skill levels - no matter what your skill level, you can always find an opponent for a bit of friendly competition.

Social and team play - We offer box leagues and social tournaments or, if you want more competitive play, why not try for a place in one of our teams. We run men's, ladies’, and mixed adult teams as well as youth teams, all competing in local and national leagues.

New kids are welcome - We have a strong youth programme – our well-qualified coaches follow the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) five-stage Youth programme for children from age four to 10+. We also offer multi-sport holiday programmes which will keep your kids happy during the school breaks. Call James Grindell on 07968058383 for more information.

Health benefits of tennis

Tennis gives you a full body workout, releases feel-good endorphins and teaches valuable social skills.

Physical Health

Physical Health

Tennis is a fast-paced sport. You can improve your stamina and get a full body workout. Swinging the racket works the muscles of your arms, shoulders, back and core. You use the muscles of your lower body to run, jump, crouch and move on the spot. Tennis can help you lose weight – you can cover up to five miles in an hour-long match. The continuous movement increases your heart rate, improves your aerobic fitness, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is also good for your bones, balance and agility.
Mental Wellbeing

Mental Wellbeing

Tennis is a tactical sport that requires planning and thinking, so it is great brain training. Playing a game releases the feel-good hormones known as endorphins, which can improve your mental health, reduce stress and lower your risk of conditions like depression. The combination of physical exertion, mixing with other like-minded people and the sheer enjoyment of playing can help reduce stress levels and promote relaxation. Learning new skills and improving over time can lead to a boost in self-esteem and self-image.
Social Benefits

Social Benefits

Playing tennis allows you to meet new people and make friends. It fosters teamwork and cooperation in doubles, and teaches valuable social skills like communication, respect, and good sportsmanship. Joining a club and playing in a team creates a sense of belonging and commitment, helping players feel connected to a community.
