Tennis at Duffield

Racket sports in Duffield have a long and distinguished history. Duffield Lawn Tennis Club (DLTC) was set up in 1882 and has operated continuously (on various sites) until 2024 when it merged with Dufield Squash Club. DLTC has produced many County players and even a former Wimbledon boys’ champion. Read more about our tennis history.

Squash at Duffield

The first squash court was built in 1937 alongside the wooden tennis pavilion, with an initial membership of around 60. The original officers of the Squash Club were those of the tennis club. Facilities have been continually updated and improved, financed entirely by members. The club boasts county, national and world champions. The Storm Babet gamechanger

In October 2023 both clubs suffered severe damage from the Storm Babet flood. The need to act together to meet the challenge made members fully realise the benefits of a merger, which had been under consideration for some time. This took place in April 2024, and the united club was named Duffield Squash and Tennis club. A new club Council was set up which included a representative of each club section.

Birth of Duffield Rackets and Fitness

Following the flood, and the sense of renewal it produced, the Council was determined to expand the offering to better meet the changing trends in health, exercise and fitness. The racket offering was expanded to include pickleball alongside squash, racketball and tennis; the gym was further developed and a range of fitness classes introduced. This, in turn, prompted a name change to fully reflect the breadth of sporting activity at the club and, In June 2024, members voted to change the name to Duffield Rackets and Fitness.
