Coaching Programmes

Youth coaching sessions

Our coaches follow the coaching programmes established by the sports’ governing bodies: the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and England Squash. The LTA Youth programme has five stages for children from age four to 10+. The Squash programme starts with Squash Stars from age five and is followed by Mini/Improver Squash and Junior Development Squash.

Four stages

Squash/Racketball Youth Coaching Programme

Sessions are designed to be fun whilst players learn the basic techniques. As youngsters progress, the sessions will focus more on skills and competitive play. More confident players who are ready for competition can join our mini squash leagues or participate in club tournaments. You’ll need to bring your gym kit and trainers without black rubber soles. Rackets and balls will be provided where players don’t have their own. Our squash youth coaching programme includes four stages:

Squash Youth Coaching Programme

Squash Stars

Developed by England Squash, Squash Stars is a fun junior squash initiative to engage kids aged 5-9 to step on court and begin a lifelong love of the game. Duffield Squash & Tennis Club is a delivery partner, and we run sessions in line with the National Programme.

Mini Squash

Designed as a follow-on to Squash Stars, this currently runs twice a week (see timetable below).

Beginners squash

This introduces the sport and focuses on learning the basic skills of the game including serve and return, forehand and backhand, drive, volley, drop-shots and the lob.

Improvers Level

Next build on these basic skills to develop basic racket / eye coordination for basic strokes. Improvers level focuses more on technique in the game and encourages competitive play whilst keeping fits and having fun.

Junior Development

Designed to help youngsters develop their squash skills for competitive play by introducing the technical and tactical principles required for a full game.
