Fitness and Health for Racket Players

Get fit to play

Conditioning, and recovery and rehabilitation for racket players after injury are an important part of our offering and key to members’ on-court performance and enjoyment.

Rackets members may access the gym following a brief induction to ensure safe use of the equipment. If you are a squash, tennis or pickleball member (over 16 years old), you may include anytime gym as part of your racket subscription, or you can use the facilities on a pay-as-you-go basis – just ask for an induction.

The benefits of fitness

Burn calories, boost your mood, and make friends

Physical Health

Physical Health

Being a member of a gym or joining a class encourages you take the regular exercise you need. Fitness and gym activity burns calories and helps you control your weight. It also lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, thus reducing your risk of heart disease and stroke. Other benefits include strengthening muscles and bones, helping you avoid osteoporosis and reducing the risk of fractures, not to mention improving balance and coordination, so you are less likely to fall and injure yourself.
Mental Wellbeing

Mental Wellbeing

If you struggle with your mental health, you’ll find that exercise can boost your mood, releasing endorphins and reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety. It also acts as a natural stress reliever and provides a sense of accomplishment. After a good workout you sleep better, fall asleep faster and enjoy more restful sleep. You will experience increased confidence and self-esteem as you achieve your fitness goals, and your energy levels will increase.
Social

Social

Although being a member of a gym may seem like a solitary pastime, being a member of a club allows you to meet other like-minded people. At Duffield we have a bar where members meet and chat after exercise, as well as a programme of social events such as quizzes, live music and talks. All these activities allow you to network, make friends and give you a sense of community and belonging.
