News: Newsletter July 2026

Club News

We have had some good news – HMRC have now confirmed that our registration as a CASC (Community Amateur Sports Club) has been updated to reflect the change of name, to Duffield Rackets and Fitness, as agreed at the AGM last September– this is important for the club as it gives us significant tax advantages.

Play Your Way to Wimbledon – finals will take place on Saturday July 11th, 11am onwards. Good luck to all participants on their quest to play at Wimbledon.

Well done to all our Junior and Adult teams competing in the Derby Area League.  We are halfway through and many of our teams are competing for the title of their respective divisions.

Pickleball

Pickleball is going from strength to strength: the open weekend held at the end of April has resulted in 30 new members, which takes the ‘Pickleball only’ membership to over 120. Other club members are welcome to join the organised socials which take place every day apart from Saturday. We have also introduced a very popular organised match play night on Thursday evening.

On the team front, our two teams in the Derbyshire Pickleball league both ended up one division higher at the end of the season. The new season starts in September and we will be entering four teams. Anyone interested in trying pickleball contact Brent on 07885427623.

American doubles’ tournament on July 11, 1 – 3 pm.

£9 each plus pizza and prizes. Contact Head Coach James james.grindell@btinternet.com or 07968 058383.

Social

Tufty Club Music and Singalong – Friday 17 July 8pm

Keith Walker, the infamous Tufty Club impresario, will be playing keyboards at the bar while his friends will be joining in with a few salty sea shanties. They will be combining the old-fashioned music hall vibe with fisherman’s friends and some classic favourites. If you fancy a sing song, come and join them. No booking required.

Psst. For those new to the club, the Tufties are a long-standing group of fun-loving squash/tennis members who play together on Saturday/Sunday mornings.

Sisters social – Wednesday 29 July – 7.30 – 9.30pm

Calling all tennis, squash, pickle and fitness ladies please join us for a Summer get together.  This month, we will be serving a refreshing summer spritz as well as the usual wines, spirits and beers?

Just  come for a chat, have a game of cards or whatever you fancy – it’s your evening!

NTL – Les Liaisons Dangereuses – September 13

Lesley Manville (Oedipus, Phantom Thread) and Aidan Turner (Rivals) lead the company in a striking new staging of Christopher Hampton’s (The Father) celebrated adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos’ classic novel – a thrilling game of love, lies and social warfare, directed by Marianne Elliott (Angels in America).

Marquise de Merteuil is a master in the art of survival. Alongside the magnetic Vicomte de Valmont, they turn seduction into strategy and weaponise desire. But when their alliance collapses into rivalry, the battle between them threatens to destroy everyone in their path.

Use of Kitchen

The club is expecting a food safety and hygiene inspection from the local authority in the next few weeks so please ensure that if you use the kitchen, you leave it tidy – please wash, dry and put away anything you have used and clean down surfaces and cookers.

Anyone preparing food at the club or for consumption at the club must pay attention to food safety and hygiene standards. Government guidance is at this site https://www.food.gov.uk/safety-hygiene/providing-food-at-community-and-charity-events. The key pages have been printed and are available in the kitchen.

Do you have ideas for new events, know talented entertainers who could delight our members, or would you love to organise something special yourself? We want to hear from you! Reach out to Penny and Julie at social@duffieldrf.club and help us make our social calendar even brighter.
